Female Tech Billionaires Come out Top on Forbes' List of Richest Self-Made Women

In a record year for female billionaires, 7 of the 25 listed made their fortunes from tech

On June 4th 2019, Forbes released their list of America's Richest Self Made Women.

The fifth annual ranking lists 80 of the country's most successful self-made female entrepreneurs and executives, measured by their net worths. The minimum net worth to make the ranking is $225 million, featuring women like Kylie Jenner at #23 ($1B), Serena Williams at #80 ($225M) and Oprah Winfrey at #10 ($2.6B).

20 of the women featured made their fortunes in tech, eight of which are in the top 31%. 25 are billionaires — a record number  up one from the previous year. 

The tech industry leaders mentioned include dating app Bumble's founder, Whitney Wolfe Herd at #72former eBay and Hewlett Packard Enterprise CEO Meg Whitman at #2 and Facebook's COO and Lean In author, Sheryl Sandberg at #12

Despite females making up more than half of the U.S. workforce, according to data compiled by virtual event solutions company Evia, women still make up less than 20 percent of U.S. tech jobs.
